《了不起的挑战》拥有不同的主题，每期节目都是不同的节目，深入国内多个职业也覆盖上百个职业，从普通的劳动者到生活场景之中完成各种艰难的挑战任务。节目重点是明星体验各种工作，在不同的生存环境之下，劳作的生活场景也寻求人性情感的爆发，做有意义的事并传递中国文化价值。

节目有6个性格鲜明，不同的明星要去完成各种挑战，会围绕着每个人特点设置挑战任务，也会突出每个人的缺点，需要挑战自己的缺点，每个人也是相辅相成的，在某一方面有着独特的特质。

节目的不同之处就是完全没有台本的表演，在真实的情景之下创造无限，可能挑战成功与否是不要紧的，最重要的是在每一次挑战的过程之中，在哭与笑的背后都要存在一定的思考。
