姚学琛是一个记忆力超群的人，因为曾经和一个神秘人学习过记忆技巧，并且学习了犯罪心理学后，成为了一个有名的读心侦探。其实所谓的读心就是能够通过观察一个人的一言一行洞察这个人内心真实的想法，他凭借自己的读心的能力屡破奇案。因为他的能力善于笼络人心，并且为人圆滑不容易的醉人，但是会给人一种虚伪的感觉。他虽然表面乐观但是内心孤寂阴暗。这一切和他小时候的经历有关，生父姚天宝带着姚学琛去钓鱼的时候发生意外去世了，这成为了姚学琛一辈子的噩梦，后来母亲改嫁，新家的亲戚对他们母子没有好脸色，所以他从小就过着寄人篱下要看人脸色的生活。在警局里，对姚学琛的能力很质疑的信任何礼贤，以及对姚学琛有好感的同事叶展婷，还有和何礼贤偷偷恋爱的妹贝儿。
